February has arrived with very mild weather!  There is a lot of information in this newsletter...please read all the way to the bottom.

For this month we will be learning about community helpers and transportation vehicles. Our discussions will be about how the jobs of the community helpers, how do they help our community, questions for guest speakers that come to our classroom and figuring out how different vehicles move and how they are used .

Bible Stories for this month

David and Goliath-It doesn't matter how old you are, God can still help you do important things.

Zacchaeus-Zacchaeus found Jesus, said he was sorry and changed his ways.  Jesus forgives when we apologize and He doesn't look back on our mistakes.

We will be working the following skills

Review the phonics sounds and actions with your child.  We have covered these letters so far: s,m,d,h,n,f,a,p,g,j,c,w,q,r,v...in February we will cover: t,x, y, z            Be sure that you are working on the lower case letters.  These give the children the most difficulty and all their words are in lowercase letters for learning to read.

Science & math: how to have healthy teeth, proper handwashing, mixing colors, connect the dots, stacking cups(coordination and logical thinking), geometric shapes, magnets, classifying objects and liquid density.

Writing and reading: Journal writing will be steadily increasing for continued practice with a variety of letter formation writing.  Word families and rhyming words are the beginning steps to reading skills.  We will also cover highlighting the first letter in word and sounding it out for a clue, opposites, cutting to strenghthen fingers for writing, journal writing with illustrations to promote linking pictures to words.

At Home Activity

On the days your child does not attend school, they can be writing their phone number and memorizing it.  The 3 skills are memorization, numeral writing practice and recallng the numberal (thinking about what it looks like in order to write it down).                                      Other information to move onto is your home address: house number, street name and town
